Thunder Carriages specializes in the Custom Assembly and Fabrication of custom cars and components.
After 30 years of building street rods and racecars for personal use, Thunder Carriages opened for business in 1990.
Since that time we have built many cars and worked with several racing programs on the development and maintenance of their cars. During this time we have continued to develop our 427 Roadster Replica into a show quality hot rod that turns heads everywhere they go. Whether you want a boulevard cruiser or an all-out race prepped sports car, we are prepared to build it for you. We build custom frames, suspension components, bend tubular roll bars and cages on racecars, narrow axel housings and fabricate other components as needed.
In our fiberglass shop, we not only produce our Roadster body, we produce racecar parts for other companies and individuals. Racecar parts for Porsches, Pantara's, Camaro's and Mustang's are currently being made for others.
Depending on the fiberglass project and what is required, we either hand lay the glass or machine apply the material, which is hand rolled to extract air from the composite. Lightweight parts are produced in fiberglass or carbon fiber and vacuum bagged to extract excess resin.
Our Roadster chassis is built on a 2”x4” jig welded and powder coated, rectangular tube frame. The frame features, diagonal braced front shock towers, ride height adjustable 4-wheel coil over shocks, 4 wheel disc brakes and tubular twin a-arms. Rear suspension is available in either Ford 9” with adjustable four link for brute strength or Jaguar independent for superior ride and handling.
The body is reinforced with metal at all hinge points and the cowl for added strength. Wire conduits are added to the engine compartment to keep wires tidy and out of sight. Before painting all mold parting lines are repaired and several coats of urethane primer are added with block sanding between coats.
When the body is just right, base coat color is applied, along with several coats of clear coat. When dry, the clear coat is color sanded and buffed to a bright shine. The body is now ready to be placed on the detailed chassis.
The interior of the Cobra is adorned with black leather seats, dash and side pockets, black Essex carpet, Stewart-Warner gauges and mahogany steering wheel.
The final touch is the reproduction windshield, latches, lights and badges to present the proper look.
Turnkey roadsters are available with different power train combinations and different price points from mild to wild.
Thunder Carriages strives to use our experience to provide excellent service and great products at competitive prices to all our customers.
